Andrew Spielman is professor of Tropical Public Health at Harvard University's School of Public Health and Center for International Development. His research activities have focused on the epidemiology of vector-borne infections including the establishment of many of the fundamental features in the natural history of West Nile fever and of Lyme disease and its associated, co-transmitted infections. He also assists the Massachusetts State Institute of Laboratories in their efforts for monitoring and responding to outbreaks of vector-borne infection. His research and epidemiological efforts have been conducted throughout the world's tropics, and he is currently focusing on malaria in Africa, particularly in Ethiopia and on Bioko Island in Equatorial Guinea.
