Prof. Burton Singer

Prof. Burton Singer is Charles and Marie Robertson Professor of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He was formerly a Professor at Yale University (Public Health, Economics, and Statistics), Columbia University (Statistics), and an Adjunct Professor at Rockefeller University (Laboratory of Populations). His current research includes: (i) empirical studies of the interrelationships between ecological transformation, economic development, and malaria on the Amazon frontier in Brazil and (ii) historical analyses of the bases for successful malaria control programs from 1900 to the present and implications for current health policy in the tropics. Prof. Singer served as Chair of the Steering Committees for Socioeconomic Research and Applied Field Research in the World Health Organization Tropical Disease Research Program, Chair of the National Research Council Committee on National Statistics, and the Committee on Future Directions for Behavioral and Social Science Research at the National Institute of Health. He is a fellow of the American Statistical Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences. Prof. Singer received his Ph.D. in statistics from Stanford University.
