Eva Ombaka

Eva Ombaka is the coordinator of the Ecumenical Pharmaceutical Network (EPN) in Kenya that brings together church-related health services, and an advisor to the World Council of Churches (WCC). In this capacity she works closely with international governmental and non-governmental organizations on access to essential drugs and primary healthcare. Dr. Ombaka is co-founder of Sustainable Healthcare Enterprises Foundation (SHEF), formerly known as the Cry for the World Foundation, which is pioneering the franchising of community-based services to enable access to essential medicines and other basic health services to children and their families. Previously, Dr. Ombaka was head of the Departments of Pharmaceutical Science and Pharmaceutical Microbiology at the University of Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania and has worked as General Manager at Keko Pharmaceuticals, Tanzania. As a member of the Pharmacy Board she was closely involved in the preparation of the Tanzania National Drug Policy. A pharmacist by training, Dr. Ombaka is an acknowledged expert on drug management in developing countries. Her research has focused on the microbiological activity of traditional medicines and the use of oral rehydration salts in Tanzania. Dr. Ombaka holds a Ph.D. from Aston University, Birmingham.
