Paulo Moutinho

Paulo Moutinho is currently the Scientific Coordinator of the Instituto de Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia (IPAM) with its headquarter located in Belém. He is also a scientific consultant for The Woods Hole Research Center, an American research institute. His scientific expertise is in the area of biodiversity and ecological ecosystems in the Amazon region. In the last several years has studies the ecological mechanisms involved in the restoration of degraded forests in the Amazon and the effects of logging on the Amazon fauna, and more recently, has been working on several research projects on fire ecology and forest fires. He obtained his masters and Ph.D. in ecology from UNICAMP during 1987-1991 and 1993-1998 respectively.

As of Jan 1, 2007, the advisory work formerly carried out by the Millennium Project secretariat team is being continued by an MDG Support team integrated under the United Nations Development Program.
