Dermot Maher

Dermot Maher is a Medical Officer in the TB Strategy and Operations team, Stop TB Department, WHO Geneva. He has initiated the Global TB/HIV Working Group and led the development of the global TB/HIV strategic framework. After graduating in medicine from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom in 1983, Dr Maher trained in family medicine in Australia and the UK. From 1988 onwards he specialised in internal medicine and infectious diseases in the UK, and worked as a medical specialist and honorary clinical lecturer in Malawi from 1992-1995. He joined the World Health Organization's Global Tuberculosis Programme (GTB) in 1995 and worked on community TB care and TB/HIV research and policy development, on the production of clinical and policy guidelines, and on country-level technical assistance.
