Barbara Klugman

Barbara Klugman initiated and directed the Women's Health Project from 1991 to 2000 drawing on her experience as an anti-apartheid and women's rights activist. She is now a senior specialist at WHP, focusing on research and capacity building in the fields of policy analysis, gender analysis and sexual and reproductive rights and health. Her current major projects are the Johannesburg Initiative: international capacity building for advocacy for abortion access; the development of tools for mainstreaming gender for the World Health Organization; and the co-ordination of an international research and advocacy initiative to identify and build capacity for addressing the impact of health sector reforms on sexual and reproductive rights and health. Ms. Klugman holds a MA in Social Anthropology.
