Carolyn Hannan

Carolyn Hannan is currently the Director of the Division for the Advancement of Women at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Prior to this, she was the Senior Policy Advisor on Gender Equality in the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and the Chair of the OECD/DAC Working Party on Gender Equality. Dr. Hannan has also worked as the Principal Office for Gender Mainstreaming in the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues at the United Nations. She has lived and worked primarily in Africa but has also worked in Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Dr. Hannan received her doctorate in Social and Economic Geography from the University of Lund in Sweden where she now holds the title Associate Professor.
