Eka Esu-Williams
Eka Esu-Williams is currently a Programme Associate at the International Programs Division Population Council under the Horizons Program. Her professional carrier includes 15 years of program and research work in HIV/AIDS. In 1988, Ms. Dr. Williams helped to found the Society for Women Against AIDS in Africa (SWAA), a regional network based in 30 African countries and engaged in addressing social and cultural factors that predispose girls and women to HIV/AIDS and other reproductive health problems. She was president of SWAA from 1991-2001 and has served on the boards of many African-based NGOs. Her current research and program activities focus on community mobilization and development, workplace interventions, women's health and gender issues, youth, care and support, orphans and vulnerable children and interventions with men who buy or sell sex. She received MSc. (1979) and PhD (1984) degrees in Immunology from the Universities of Birmingham and London. |
