Gail Cassell

Gail Cassell is currently the Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Distinguished Lilly Research Scholar for Infectious Diseases at Eli Lilly and Company. Prior to this, she served as the former Chairman of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Alabama Schools of Medicine and Dentistry at Birmingham. She is also a recent past President of the American Society for Microbiology. Dr. Cassell's major research contribution to the field of microbiology during the recent past is the establishment of Ureaplasma urealyticum as a significant cause of chrioamnionitis and disease in premature human infants. She is a graduate of the University of Alabama.
