Vegetable garden

Tiby houses a 3 ½ hectare vegetable garden in which 260 women work. Each woman has her own 10 X 10 plot of land, and the men of the village refer to them as “les femmes courageuses” or, “the brave women”. The labor is intensive and the women start working at dawn, usually around 5 or 6 a.m., and don't finish until 7 p.m.

The women are continually plagued by insufficient access to water since all eight wells in the garden are broken. Because the exterior is poorly gated animals wander in at will and eat the crops.
